Partner & Founder
Matt James has spent his career at the nexus of public policy and communications.
Matt has served as a strategist to political visionaries, leading philanthropists and business icons trying to shape our nation’s future. In these roles, Matt was a leading voice on some of the most challenging and important issues our society faces today, from climate change to children’s health to workforce competitiveness.
In Washington Matt was a political strategist for Pat Moynihan, Mo Udall and Dale Bumpers. At the Kaiser Family Foundation he was in charge of media and public education and helped develop Kaiser Health News and highly successful public education partnerships with MTV, The Washington Post and media companies in India, Russia, Africa and around the world. Along with Tom and Jim Steyer, Matt also founded the non-profit Next Generation and served on the boards of Grantmakers in Health, the CDC Foundation, the Lucile Packard Foundation for Children’s Health and a host of other nonprofits. He was director of strategic communications at Cisco Systems and has advised many corporations on social issues and campaigns.
For fun, Matt hikes with his wife in California and around the world and obsesses about Detroit professional sports teams.
